in this issue -- May and June Activities
-- Looking Ahead
Greetings! It has been a fairly quiet May on the photographic front. Our youngest granddaughter graduated from ASU this month. Otherwise we have spent our time preparing for Karen's trip to Santa Fe for Review Santa Fe and for our upcoming one-person shows in September in Tucson. Details below. We neglected to mention in the last newsletter that a new image section has been added to Steve's website for his Earth & Mars series of images. The series combines his landscape interpretations with the remarkable images taken by Martian orbiters, rovers, and landers launched over the past two decades by NASA and ESA (European Space Agency). The pairings reveal the commonality of patterns manifest in the Martian and terrestrial images: lands shaped by ancient and active volcanos, powerful winds and water. | May - June Activity ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Karen will be attending the Review Santa Fe juried portfolio review in early June to discuss her new work with gallerists and museum curators. If you are in the area, please join us at the public events. The open portfolio viewing will be held Friday evening, June 3 from 5 - 7:30pm at the Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza. The Indie Photobook Library will be at the hotel on June 3 & 4 exhibiting their collection of independently published photography books. On Sunday, June 5, a Seminar & panel discussion, Spheres of Influence: Photography and its Cultural Impact, will be held in the St. Francis Auditorium, New Mexico Museum of Art from 10:30 - noon. This panel discussion, moderated by the museum's Curator of Photography, Katherine Ware, will explore how photographers harness the power of photography to bring awareness, to influence, and to create change. It is open to the public. Please join us if you can. Steve has an image included in the show Center Forward at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO. The show will open on June 3 with a reception from 6 - 9 pm. When the show closes in Fort Collins it will be on exhibit at the Denver International Airport. Karen's image, Casa Blanca Inn, has been accepted by the photographers:network 2011. This exhibit will be published by PROFIFOTO, a leading national photography magazine for professionals in Germany, will be published on Thomas Kellner's (the organizer) website, and opens in his studio in Siegen, Germany on June 24 , 2011. | Looking Ahead ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
