Hello again. We would like to remind you of upcoming events and recent activities in which we are involved.

Patagonia Writer's Roundup

On February 13, The Friends of the Patagonia Library holds their seventh annual Writer's Round-up from 10 am - 3 pm at Cady Hall in Patagonia. Altogether, 24 authors will be on hand to sign their books and to converse with visitors.

Writers who will attend are Mark Bahti, Betty Barr, Byrd Baylor, Joel Bernstein, J.P.S. Brown, Philip Caputo, Laura Chester, Stephen Cox, Alison Deming, Jane Eppinga, Elizabeth Gunn, Lynn Hassler, Juanita Havill, Mike Hayes, Fenton Johnson, Ken Lamberton, Susan Lowell, Gregory McNamee, Tom Miller, Gary Paul Nabhan, Margaret Regan, Richard Shelton and Stephen Strom.

New this year, there will be 2 workshops, "Becoming a Writer," and "Getting Published." As a Grand Finale to the day, Richard Shelton, author of the much-loved classic Going Back to Bisbee, will read from his work at 3 pm in the Library.

Earth Forms Book Cover Steve has had 2 new books published within the last year, Observatories of the Southwest: A Guide for Curious Skywatchers, with Douglas Isbell, and his photography monograph, Earth Forms. Tucson Weekly recently reviewed Observatories of the Southwest. Earth Forms was named one of the Best Books in the West 2009 by New West Books & Writers. Come to the Writer's Round-up on February 13 to talk with Steve about these books and to get your copies.

If you are unable to attend this event, we remind you that you may obtain a signed copy of Earth Forms directly from us. Please visit the book website to see examples of its content. If you would like to purchase a copy, just reply to this email and we will be happy to make arrangements with you for delivery. We also offer a combination of a signed book with a signed print (8" x 8") of one of the images in the book, for $90. Of course, the book is also available from Amazon.com.

Recent activity

Last month we forgot to announce that the Boston Museum of Fine Arts has acquired 4 of Steve's images for their permanent collection. His work has also been selected for inclusion in two upcoming publications.

Steve is one of 6 photographers selected by juror Deborah Klomp Ching from the annual Photography Now competition. Portfolios of these photographers' work will be published in Issue 99 of Photography Quarterly, published by the Center for Photography at Woodstock.

He is also one of 15 photographers to have their work selected to appear in the Center for Fine Art Photography's Portfolio ShowCase Volume 4: Book and Online Exhibition.

Karen has had one of her photographs, Warehouse, Marfa, TX, selected for inclusion in the Photospiva 2010 exhibition at the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin, MO. The exhibit will run from March 6 - April 25, 2010.

Looking Ahead
Golden Canyon

Immediately following the Patagonia Writer's Roundup we will leave for Death Valley and the surrounding Mojave desert to photograph.

On March 13th Steve and his co-author, Douglas Isbell will be present at the Tucson Festival of Books on the University of Arizona campus. They will discuss their book, Observatories of the Southwest, between 1 and 2 pm at the main UA bookstore. Sidney Wolff, past Director of Kitt Peak National Observatory will moderate a discussion with the authors. They will sign copies of their book later in the afternoon. If you are unable to attend either of these book signings, you may purchase Observatories of the Southwest at Amazon.

Karen will be the Emerging Artist at Verve Gallery of Photography in Santa Fe, NM. Her work will be shown online and in conjunction with the exhibit by photographers Mark Citret, Douglas Ethridge & Dominic Rouse in a show running from March 19 - May 8.

Steve will have a book signing for Earth Forms at the Houston Center for Photography on March 18, from 6 - 9 pm. We will be in Houston between March 17th and the 20th to attend The Meeting Place at FotoFest 2010 where our photography portfolios will be reviewed by gallery owners, publishers and curators.

In April we travel to the East coast to visit dealers and galleries, and to present two talks, at the Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge and at UMass in Amherst. There will also be a book signing for Earth Forms at The Odyssey in South Hadley, Massachusetts. In May we travel to the Portland area for photography and for Steve's show at the Camerawork Gallery. In July Steve and Karen will have a joint show at the Open Shutter Gallery in Durango, CO.
